The Loons Are Back
April 15, 2010
The loons have made their way back now that the ice is gone. It’s amazing how they seem to know when to return. Even tho’ our ice out was almost a month early, within a few days they were there. Their call is such beautiful music after a long winter.
Wood ducks sit along the resort edge every morning also.
ICE OUT!
April 11, 2010
On March 31, 2010, the ice went out on West Fox Lake. The locals tell us this is the earliest ice out date ever. We celebrated that evening with a paddleboat ride on a lake like a piece of glass. Spring is here.

New Snowmobile Long Jump World Record (Brainerd, MN)
March 26, 2009
New Jump Record of 301 Feet
Slednecks Snowmobile Rider Shatters His Previous Record with Jump at Brainerd, MN
Paul Thacker, a professional snowmobile jumper set the record for longest snowmobile jump in Brainerd, Minnesota. This was the longest snowmobile jump ever! The initial jump, which was held at Brainerd International Raceway was scheduled for Monday, due to conditions he jumped today. His longest distance was 301′.
On March 26, Thacker and his Polaris 600 IQ® flew through the air, a distance of 301 feet, a new world record for snowmobile distance jumping. He accomplished the feat at the Brainerd, Minnesota at Brainerd International Raceway.Thacker was traveling at 87 mph on his take off. “When I was in the air I just knew it was perfect. Flew over 301 feet. With the amplitude and the way I landed, I knew we got to where we wanted to be. I was already screaming in my helmet on the down run.”
Thacker’s previous snowmobile distance jump record was 271 feet, which he set on February 17, 2008, in Shakopee, Minnesota, or Canteburry Downs. Thacker and his fellow Monster rider Ryan Capes are the two athletes to break the 300′ mark. Capes accomplished the feat on a motorcycle and recently he set the new long distance jump on a motorcycle at 390′ and a new height record of 78′.
